Create and Host Website for Free at Weebly

Weebly is a online web site creator and hosting application. Weebly provides similar service with that of Google Page Creator, allowing novice users who want to upload and get their contents online but don’t want to learn the technical expertise to HTML and JavaScript web programming, or mess with the CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) to beautify the web page layout, or don’t want to pay a single cents for web hosting, or dislike using blog software or want to create and publish simple web pages instead of blog postings. Best of all, the free Weebly site creation and hosting service is equally easy to use as Google Page Creator, with its tag line been Website Creation Made Easy.

Weebly features drag and drop interface, variety of themes to apply to the website, personalized Weebly subdomain based on name of the site, ability to export the website to Zip file to host at another server or for recovery purpose, automatically handle media or resize photos, support numerous content elements that can be placed on web page such as text, pictures, photos, videos, maps, ads, a Flickr badge, Badgr, an RSS feed reader, and more. Most features on Weebly is based on AJAX, such as AJAX file upload and AJAX editor which allows drag and drop, effects and animations.

To use Weebly, Internet Explorer 5.5+ or IE7 and Firefox 1.5+ or 2.0 on Windows, Firefox 1.5+ or 2.0 on Linux and Firefox 1.5+ or 2.0 on Mac OS X is needed. Currently, anybody can sign up immediately for Weebly, after they returned to an open signup system from invitation based registration system. But due to high demand, Weebly has limits on the number of new user signups that they will accept.

Free Web Hosting and Site Creator with Google Page Creator

Bookmark and Share

Google Page Creator is a service from Google that allows users to create and publish their own attractive web pages, quickly and easily by using a free, easy to use and browser-based tool.
Google Page Creator is very helpful for users who’re non-technical and not familiar to web site creation, to easily set up their websites in What You See Is What You See (WYSIWYG) rich text editor mode, just like creating a document in Microsoft Word. If you would like more control over your web pages, you can edit the page in HTML mode too. Once you’re done editing the page, just 1 click will publish the page to the Internet at googlepages.com subdomain, i.e http://userid.googlepage.com/. Each user is given 100 MB free web hosting space and storage space.

Google Page Creator’s Page Editor has a simple interface that automatically inserts the user’s Google user name as the headline on the home page (”User name’s Home Page”) – Google Account is needed to use the tool. Below that are a pair of boxes for inserting a subtitle and text, plus a third box for inserting optional “Footer” information.
Buttons across the top of the work page provide the functions of “Back to Page Manager,” “Publish,” “Preview,” “Save,” “Redo,” “Undo,” “Change Look,” and “Change Layout”. Controls along the left side provide functions for inserting an image, inserting a web link, fonts, paragraphs, headings, subheading, “minor” headings, and editing the Web page html itself. Beside, Google Page Creator has Auto-Save feature like Gmail, to minimize changes of accidental loss.

You can also browse all your web pages and uploaded stuffs with Page Manager. You can create as many pages as you like, and upload as many files as you like, as long as it’s within space limit. If you upload image, a thumbnail will be automatically created too. The file formats allowed to upload to the Google Pages server include:
Images: bmp, gif, jpg, pcx, png, tga, tif
Markup Languages: htm, html, xml
Music: au, mid, mp3, s3m, wav
Compressed, Packed and Zipped Files: lha, zip
Programming Code: c, cpp, h, java
Documents: ods, xls, odp, ppt, pdf, ps, doc, lwp, odf, rtf, wp
Video: avi, gvi, mov, mpeg, wmv

Page Layout can be changed by using Change Layout button, which will show you available layout. For each layout, the dashed rectangles represent the parts of the page that you can edit.

Page Look can also be changed by clicking on Change Look, which will lead you to available designs and looks.
Currently there is no ads on the web pages that users created. The page is saved and published accurately despite the service still in Google Labs. Google Page Creator also copies feature from Picasa, where you can tell your friends about your website by using Gmail.
One significant downside to Google Page Creator is that when you save and publish your web pages with Page Editor, it will remove some of the HTML elements, such as

Basically the same as its predecessor T-series notebooks did. The T60 body is a rugged plastic that does not flex. The magnesium reinforced lid won't flex and provides amazing protection for the screen. The keyboard does not flex -- at all. The thick metal hinges that attach the screen are very rigid and ensure the screen does not wobble. The keyboard is spill proof and has two drain holes to make sure if you do happen to spill your morning Starbucks coffee, the liquid is carried away from sensitive components and out through the bottom of the notebook. The hard drive is shock mounted and the entire chassis is a newly designed magnesium "roll cage" (it offers 30% more protection that past T-series chassis), and even if your T60 is dropped and broken the Active Protection System (APS) will stop hard drive activity to prevent data loss. The double screen latch system locks securely to make sure the screen stays down when being carried around. In other words, there's no shortcuts being used in build quality from past ThinkPad notebooks since the Lenovo takeover of IBM -- only enhancements.
The inside meant that this computer had an Intel chip inside meaning better performance than those other people, way back in 1993, not that Intel focused on the insides of the computer. Watch it and this will actually be bad for them. All those people won't even recognize the intel they knew with the new logo.
I admit it, I have no use for the Weener (Windows) keys. Its a pointless feature to have if you use other OSs or migrating AWAY from Windows. Its like Nvidia's chipset firewall solution...Another pointless feature for "Windows Only" users. (Which causes more trouble than its really worth).

With Lenovo adopting all these "everyone else has it" features, its not the same ThinkPad anymore. They don't stand out technologically, like they used to.

Granted, the fingerprint scanner and keyboard light is interesting, but that's all there is. My oldR50 ThinkPad has a keyboard light as well. So I guess the only thing is the fingerprint scanner.
Like the ThinkPad Z61m, the ThinkPad T60 features a 15.4-inch wide-screen display with a 1,680x1,050 native resolution that affords a large amount of screen real estate (nearly 26 columns and 51 rows on the default Excel spreadsheet) but can make text appear small. Users who fall behind on their Vitamin A supplements can configure the T60 with a 1,280x800 resolution display. As with all ThinkPads, a reading light tucked into the bezel above the screen lets you illuminate the keyboard when working in dark environments. The T60 lacks the built-in Webcam found on the Z61m's display bezel.

As for ThinkVantage, that is useful...To some extent.

I tried to "clean restore" WinXP from the hidden partition (as Windows requires a clean installation after 2 or more years of use), and I get a crapload of errors. The Trackpoint or Touchpad seem to be no longer detected, and so on. And other error messages. I couldn't get past finishing the install. So I unhid that WinXP Partition, and formatted the sucker clean, gained 8GB back of HDD space. Which is enough for a quadriple boot...Win2k, Slackware, FreeBSD and Solaris. (And they all work fine with the Trackpoint/Touchpad).
In all Starting price is higher than comparable systems'; lacks a number of nonessential but fairly standard ports and connections. Sturdy, well-designed case; strong security features; full range of networking connections, including WWAN and Bluetooth; swappable internal bay; solid warranty terms and well-reputed support.

Intel Turbo Boost Technology

Bookmark and Share

Intel® Turbo Boost Technology is one of the many exciting new features that Intel has built into latest-generation Intel® microarchitecture (codenamed Nehalem). It automatically allows processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency if it's operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.
Dynamically increasing performance

As an independent and complimentary feature, Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology (Intel® HT Technology) along with Intel Turbo Boost Technology increases performance of both multi-threaded and single threaded workloads. Intel Turbo Boost Technology is activated when the Operating System (OS) requests the highest processor performance state (P0).

The maximum frequency of Intel® Turbo Boost Technology is dependent on the number of active cores. The amount of time the processor spends in the Intel Turbo Boost Technology state depends on the workload and operating environment, providing the performance you need, when and where you need it.

Any of the following can set the upper limit of Intel Turbo Boost Technology on a given workload:
• Number of active cores
• Estimated current consumption
• Estimated power consumption
• Processor temperature

When the processor is operating below these limits and the user's workload demands additional performance, the processor frequency will dynamically increase by 133 MHz on short and regular intervals until the upper limit is met or the maximum possible upside for the number of active cores is reached. Conversely, when any of the limits are reached or exceeded, the processor frequency will automatically decrease by 133 MHz until the processor is again operating within its limits.

Choosing A Mini Notebook Computer Without Tears

Bookmark and Share

Mini laptop or net book computers are generating all the buzz about laptops these days!

Why all the interest?

Mini computers are smaller and lighter than your standard notebook computer and have a better battery life... but you could say that about a pencil and a piece of paper. In many ways a mini notebook (or if you prefer, a mini laptop) is a throw back to the bad old days when the terms notebook computer and laptop computer weren't interchangeable.

How Are They Different Now?
In order to power the MIDs, Intel developed the Atom processor. Atom processors are currently only available embedded in an Intel motherboard.

What Are The Advantages Of A Mini Laptop?
Expect the mini laptop to weigh approximately 2.5 pounds, including the battery. A good battery life should be at least 4 hours or more. Compare this to a 15.4-inch laptop, which will generally measure about 10 by 14 inches and weigh about 6 pounds. The weight savings alone may persuade you to think more about choosing a mini laptop.
Mini laptop computers are listed as less expensive than other portable computers. These mini laptop computers installed with Intel Atom processors are generally powerful enough to run Windows XP and Microsoft Office without fail.

What Are The Disadvantages Of A Mini Laptop?
The standard drives that you most likely will find on common on mini laptops are relatively small, only 16GB or less. Windows XP, Windows Media Player 11 and Microsoft Office Professional 2002 are well over 4GB, so this would be the area where you will most likely want to upgrade.

The displays generally have lower resolution than laptop computers. But this should not be a deterrent, unless you will be working with digital graphics. The graphic cards generally are not as good as notebook computers, but if you are just surfing the web or downloading music, you will probably not notice much difference.

The least expensive mini laptop computers run a version of Linux, not windows, as their operating system. I added an external CD/DVD burner and upgraded the hard drive from 8 to 16GB to the mini computer that I recently purchased. The final cost of my mini laptop was $524. Without adding the CD/DVD burner, this system was $439.
Let’s Compare A 15 inch Laptop To A MiniLaptop
The least expensive 15 inch laptop from Dell includes a 120GB hard drive, built-in CD/DVD burner, and runs Windows Vista. Both minis and 15 inch computers have wireless g network cards.

If you add mobile broadband hardware to each of these computers the mini notebook is a bit pricier than a standard the laptop.
Asus has been the driving force behind the development of the netbook market. MSI has also been a market leader. Just about anything less than $330 runs Linux or has a processor slower than the Intel Atom or both.

Are You A Candidate For These New Minis?

A mini laptop is marginally suitable as a primary computer for someone who doesn't use his or her laptop computer at work or school. If you mostly use a notebook to download music and load it onto your mp-3 player, e-mail your friends, and surf the net you might get by. They are not the best choice for games or for doing any number crunching or complicated word-processing.
What Is The Comparative Pricing?
A mini laptop, a netbook, a mini notebook, or mini computers are in the same price range as i-phones. In one review it was reported that to surf the net, it was a clear advantage to have the bigger display and keyboard of the netbook, and the downside was that you couldn't make phone calls.

Guidlines for Purchasing desktop and laptop computers

Bookmark and Share

A computer has become an essential gadget in every household and is no more a luxury. Without computers, you will find it hard to stay connected and to even do the work required of you in college or in the office. With so much computer packages being shoved to us every time we go to department stores and computer shops, you’ll really get quite confused on what you really need and what computer package will fit your budget and lifestyle. To help you through this problem, here are a few useful guidelines that will help you make the right decision before buying a computer.
RAM
RAM (Random Access memory) is perhaps the most important factor to consider when buying your computer.
RAM will greatly determine the speed of your computer. How fast it will process your multiple tasks. You must make sure you have enough for your needs. 1GB memory is the standard but try to afford 2GB of memory space that is preferable.
Also it may be wise to buy a computer with upgradeable memory - since new applications, multi windowed browsers; streaming video... of the very near future may place high demand on your computer’s RAM.
PROCESSORS
Processor is the heart of your computer. Intel Dual core is the front runner in this area right now. However, American Micro Devices (AMD) is giving Intel some stiff competition in the dual core battle with its Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core processor. In shopping for a processor, one should consider the following:
Clock speed – This will show the number of instructions that a computer can execute in a second. This usually comes after the brand name.
Cache memory – This stores the data that were previously accessed. This simplifies the work of the computer as it would not take twice as long to access information already stored in memory. Cache memory eases the work of RAM.
Operating temperature – Some processors easily heats up. Before buying, make sure that you have asked about the operating temperature just in case you need to buy additional fans or put the computer in an A/C room.
HARD DISK DRIVE
The amount of space or size of laptop hard drives are steadily increasing, an 80 GB is now common. This is the part where you store all the information in your computer. It is the permanent memory of your computer. Here you can install all your programs and save all the documents that you need. It is also important that you buy a hard drive with really big capacity (preferably 160 GB or more) especially now when people are so used to storing multimedia files that may use up a lot of hard drive space. Many computer experts choose the SATA hard disk drive with a high 5400 or 7200 RPM.
MOTHERBOARD
This is where all the parts of the computer’s CPU are attached. Some motherboards already have video cards and soundcards embedded on it while others don’t. What is important however is to choose a motherboard that is compatible with your RAM and processor. VIDEO CARDS
This is the part of the computer which determines the quality of the multimedia images that you will view. The higher the memory of the video card, the better is the picture quality and the colors. This is especially needed if you watch a movie or play video games.
MONITOR
The primary component is the monitor of the computer so when purchasing the computer, one should try and invest a little more on the monitor. In the case of Desktop Computer there is always a choice between CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) and LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) monitors but nowadays manufacturers are providing LCD monitors and that has become a standard since the size is less, thus occupies lesser space and it also consumes lesser power but is definitely more expensive than CRT.
In the case of Laptop there is no choice between CRT and LCD as you know well. But here one thing is to be considered is size of the screen because, if you want wider screen then it will increase the weight of the Laptop.
WARRANTIES
You must clarify the warranties provided by the companies before purchasing. It will assure post purchase services from the company.

HOW ABOUT BUYING COMPUTER ONLINE?
Buying computer online is favorable. Here are some reasons to this answer.
1. Convenience
2. Better Selection
3. Product Reviews
4. Comparison Shopping
5. Competitive Pricing
6. Discount Coupons
7. Almost Free Shipping

Choosing the right motherboard

Bookmark and Share

The motherboard is the basic component of the computer: Depending on this choice the resulting choice of the processor (CPU), the type of memory (RAM) and extension ports: number of graphics ports, number of connections sata for hard drives and optical drives, ...

The fundamental component of the motherboard is the chipset:
it determines which CPU can work on this motherboard (they must be compatible socket), it also determines the type of managed RAM (DDR2, DDR3 or DDR2 / DDR3)

To choose a motherboard, you must pay attention to two main points:

compatibility with other components of the PC: To be perfectly compatible, they should be part of the same generation, and sometimes even from the same manufacturer. A new generation processor will not run on a motherboard too old, even with a BIOS update.

scalability of the connection: To assemble a computer capable of evolving and paste to future technological progress, the scalability of the connector of your motherboard is crucial. To her you must connect the new elements: it must supports. To add elements, the main ports in sufficient numbers (USB) and types (e-SATA, FireWire, HDMI ,...)
Of course, what you want to make your PC is critical that your needs will not be the same for a PC dedicated to the simple office and surfing the web for PC gamers that video games turn 3D.
Duo motherboard / processor

Without harmony between these 2 elements, not good performance. In short, do not invest in a high performance processor (quad-core type) if your motherboard (and especially its chipset) is unable to rotate. It is advisable to choose a motherboard chipset with the same brand as your processor, but not required. AMD or Intel, the war of the two brands and raged processor motherboards are compatible with a brand: thus, first choose your CPU.
Since the release of Core 2 Duo in the summer of 2006, Intel dominates the CPU market in terms of performance, but also in terms over-clocking (for those interested), that it is the Dual Cores and Quad Cores.
They are all in socket LGA-775.
However, some AMD CPU may be interesting from a performance / price, as the old Athlon X2 6000 + and 6400 +, or new Phenom II, whose performances are also Intel CPUs.
They are generally socket AM2/AM2 + and some socket AM3.
Choice of chipset

Once the chosen CPU, the chipset of choice arises.

If we opt for an Intel CPU, there are motherboards with Intel chipset and others with an nVidia chipset. What is the difference between these 2 brands?

Intel chipsets are planned for the Crossfire, a technique that is to combine 2 graphics cards ATI.
The most common early 2009 are the P45 and X48.
The P45 supports CrossFire in the right conditions, the X48 allows CrossFire without restriction.
They are also very good for overclocking, they rise in frequency, especially at P45, engraved in 65nm (instead of 90 nm), but the FSB: RAM is done by discrete values (not continuous).

NVidia chipsets are provided for SLI, which is to combine 2 graphics cards from nVidia.
They are a bit worse in overclocking, because they heat much, but the FSB: RAM can be adjusted continuously.
The most common early 2009 are the 750i SLI, the 780i and 790i LI SLI.
The 750i SLI SLI provides the correct conditions in the 780i and 790i allow 3way-SLI without restriction.

Similarly, if one chooses an AMD CPU, a choice must be for the chipset: AMD or nVidia?

AMD chipsets are planned for the Crossfire.
The 2 most interesting chipsets from AMD currently in socket AM2 + is the 790FX and 790GX:
they enable CrossFire without restriction.

As for platforms Intel CPU, nVidia chipsets are provided for SLI.
The 2 most interesting chipsets from nVidia currently in socket AM2 + is the 750a SLI and 780a SLI:
The 750a SLI SLI provides the correct conditions in;
The 780a SLI SLI allows unrestricted, and the 3-way SLI in conditions.

Note that in the case of a motherboard to I7 processor, the X58 chipset supports CrossFire as well as SLI.
Ports and Connectors

These are the "taken" on which items are to connect to the motherboard. On a motherboard, you must find USB 2.0 connectors in sufficient numbers, but also an e-SATA port to connect to hot external hard drive, and a FireWire port for digital video. The ports are for SATA hard disks and drives (the IDE or PATA port is endangered).
You should check the number of ports and connectors to make sure that you can connect all the components you need. If you want to upgrade your computer, ports must be available.
Integrated Devices and the formats

ls are increasingly common in recent motherboards, but are generally bound to use "quiet" graphics card, sound card, firewall. Here is the use command to run 3D games, an additional graphics card is required, as well, a sound card on PCI is recommended if your speakers are particularly successful.

Do not be surprised, finally, by the format (size factor): for a single PC, this is the ATX format, the most common currently compatible with virtually all configurations.
For a mini PC, there are several sizes smaller, the most common being the micro-ATX.
You can see all the formats motherboard guide in the motherboard.

Always changing, the quantities and formats of memory cards are not accepted by all motherboards: DDR2, DDR3, or DDR2/DDR3.
Generally, these are indications of compatibility on the descriptions of the cards. Just what kind of machines you want to create and for what purpose.
Equipment Selections

These specifications are specified, you should be able to choose a motherboard based on the CPU and the type of use you want for your PC.

Manufacturers are quite few, the manufacture of motherboards is mostly due to 3 major manufacturers: Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, but there are some outsiders, such as Abit, Foxconn.
Asrock is not a manufacturer, it is a subsidiary of Asus producing maps at low cost.

Most maps running with DDR2 since early 2009, DDR3 still costs significantly more expensive for a negligible gain in practice: DDR2 vs DDR3
Only high-end solutions will be interested to buy DDR3 right now, because the bandwidth is much higher.

Some motherboards particular interest are listed below.
PC motherboards (affordable)

===AMD selections====

Motherboard is the main circuit board of the computer system. It acts like a common communication highway for all other components in the PC. All other components in the computer are either directly plugged into the motherboard or connected to it using its USB ports. Whether it is a component or a peripheral, it communicates with others via motherboard. It is the foundation of the PC and it ties together all the parts like memory, video card, storage, processor and more. If you choose right motherboard when building or upgrading your computer, you won’t have to face any severe problem.

There are different types of motherboards, depending upon the computer. There can be high-quality or low quality motherboard. However, it is not only the motherboard which improves the performance of your PC.

Modern CPUs are not compatible with older generation of motherboards. There are problems like chip features, voltage difference, BIOS support and others. If you are using graphic cards, you need to buy a motherboard which carry chipset required to support them. In fact, type of chipset decides the kind of motherboard you will buy. Check the list of features of a motherboard. It is the chipset which determines the board and memory speed and the expansion capacity.

The motherboards with DDR3 memory are the best performing motherboards. There are two to four memory slots in motherboard, depending upon its type. Also make sure that there is enough space on the motherboard to accommodate all the things you require to be in your PC. In addition, speed of motherboard and speed of memory should match each other. There is size limitation of each memory slot, so do not outdo this maximum size.

Another consideration is the form factor which is determines the dimension and layout of the motherboard. With right form factor, you can have required number of ports, expansion slots and the mounting holes. Select that motherboard which meets all your requirements.

CPU socket is another consideration which needs to be made. The motherboard you are choosing should support the family of processors you opt to use. The motherboards made for Intel CPUs use LGA775 sockets and for AMD CPUs use AM2+. You also need expansion slots for expansion cards and PCI slots for the Ethernet Cards and sound cards. Look for the motherboards with expansion slots. For storage SATA is the standard right now, so your motherboard should support SATA drives.

While buying a motherboard, it is important to assess your requirements. Buy a motherboard which meets all your requirements.

Important Tips for Web Hosting

Bookmark and Share

After the registration of domain name selection of web host is another rational step a user need to consider. Though, finding an ideal host is a daunting task. One can find several companies offering web-hosting services to the clients. While locating keyword in the search engines one will find more than 100 million outputs!

One cannot deny the fact, for a successful online presence a dependable web hosting is must. Online presence and accessibility of a web site is must. If not, one should remain ready to loose clients and prospects. For an instance, if one compare this with a traditional business.

CATEGORIES OF WEB HOSTING:

One should select a web hosting deal according to his/her site. One cannot fulfill his/her requirements from same hosting deal for a personal web site, web site meant for newsletter subscription and archives, e-commerce site or web forum. Web hosting can be divided into four prime categories:
1. Virtual (shared) hosting,

2. Dedicated server,

3. Collocation and

4. Reseller hosting.

Two most applicable hosting are virtual (shared) hosting and dedicated server.

What is Virtual (shared) hosting? It is a condition in which several web sites share one server. It is a low cost hosting because price is divided between several users. One can locate a standard virtual hosting at a rate of $100 a year.

In a Dedicated server hosting company lease the whole web server from a particular web hosting company. The site of web server is the web hosting company. One can opt dedicated server as a suitable option who does not wish to share a server with other web masters. One can find a dedicated server in two forms managed and un-managed. If one talk about managed server, company will take care of all the setups of user’s server. However, in unmanaged server user needs to take care of all these by him/her self. The benefit of this sort of hosting is that one can fully lodge web hosting as per his/her requirements. Moreover, for a site with ample amount of visitors a dedicated server is the only rational choice. Due to higher cost, starting from $100 per month, those companies that know the worth of generally use it.

One can say that Collocation server is quite identical to dedicated server. Disparity lies in the fact that company doesn’t take the web server on lease. Their own web server is placed in the company. In addition to it, company has material access to their web server, which is not available while talking about a dedicated server.

If one mention about Reseller hosting it is aimed to those companies only wishes to begin their own web hosting business.

ASPECTS, WHICH ONE NEEDS TO CONSIDER:

There are many factors which a user needs to consider to prevent any future miss happens:

Web space:
Requirement of Web space vary from site to site. Off course, if user requirement is only a web site containing basic information about him/her and his/her work excluding the use of web, then space of 50 MB is quite sufficient. However, a complex e-commerce site along with numerous products in one’s database demands a capacity of 1 GB.

Bandwidth:
The term Bandwidth refers to data transferred from user’s web site and that comprise of graphic details, images, banners and files for download. One should have accurate knowledge of Content before going for an amount of When one talks about the majority of sites, bandwidth of 10 GB a month is quite sufficient, though for few other sites like sites related to desktop wallpapers can frequently consumes even hundreds of GB a month.

Up time or visibility:
It symbolizes time articulated in percents displaying the period a site remained online. One should not be cheerful because someone assured him/her to provide say for 98% up time because it is not going to fulfill his/her requirement. One should get at least 99.7% uptime. Believe it or not, it definitely matters.

Email accounts:
Email accounts are an integrated and crucial part of web hosting package. It is quite interesting to know for how much will one get only a so called catch –all forwarding which means that all emails sent to somewhere@mydomain.com will arrive to one’s email address or one can set-up email accounts for several users? Also the thing is for how much? Is it intended for 5, 10, 100 or limitless email accounts? In addition to it, there is no harm to verify whether user get a so-called POP3 email address (“real” email address), web mail or rather both? If one has a POP3 email address then he/she can check his/her emails via favorite email client and web mail facilitate the user to inquire his/her emails at any place demanding just a computer and Internet connection.

Form of Server, tools and control panel:
When one mention the two generally utilized hosting then the name of Unix-based or Windows platform comes first. It matters for the result program languages, databases and scripts that one can apply. When one talks about Unix-based platform, general selection is relayed to PHP language along with MySQL, however, when it comes to Windows platform ASP or ASP.NET language will be along with SQL Server. One should enquire that is database is available with package or not, if yes, then how many? Nowadays, contemporary web site must be database-driven.

Too, one should have full knowledge related to tools coming along with web hosting package, if there is only applications for web statistics, file manager and things it is not an concern issue.

Technical support:

A crucial aspect while selecting a web hosting particularly for a user without having adequate technical skills is technical support. A proper technical support does not take a responsive time more then a day. This is not liable only to selection of web hosting company, but, crucial to any of the company and services, Software Company can be one of the examples.

The coordination of few of the companies is so well thought-out that it takes only 1 hour to give response to user’s queries! Through their source of contact one can predict about the future response. Do the concern company has only email support or also have phone support? Does they provide a toll-free number? Do they offer the facility of trouble-ticket system? Working time is another crucial aspect. What is their strategy of providing technical support is it during working hours only i.e. 9 to 17 or does they provide the facility of 24x7 technical support? An ideal way to detect their professionalism one can create a list of fake queries, drop a line to them and hang around to know their reply time.

Testimonials:

Several web hosting and software companies have this smart way to increase their customer strength. Testimonials section contains the approval of satisfied customers, attracting more people to their service. This section is not completely reliable. Several hosting companies offer their clients to analyze their portfolio, instead of doing that one should contact webmasters who are taking the service of concern host and register their opinions. One can take help of several sites for further information regarding best web hosting deals and suggestions.

Start for Web Hosting

Even for a layman , its important to know the concept of web hosting. Visiting any website shows a web page that is downloaded from the web server onto the user's web browser. Generally, web site is made up of many web pages and web page is made up of texts and graphic images. Now these pages are then stored and made available for the visitors on web servers.

So for a layman if his intention is to have is own web site, then the first step would be owing a host provider so as to host the website on web server. As soon as the website is online on the server, online users can browse that website through Internet. All this job of providing host facility is with the providers called web-hosting providers.

Any established web hosting provider can host even thousands of websites example, iPowerWeb is a popular web hosting company that hosts websites in amounts of lakhs i.e. 3 lakhs. Due to this reason only these hosting companies needs large number of web servers for storing the website. Thereafter all these web servers are connected to Internet and are kept in a physical center 'data center'. As these web servers needs to be fully operational all the time so data centers are made fully secure having 24/7 environment and given protection from fire, HVAC temperature control, virus detections, computer data backup, redundant power backup and complete disaster recovery capabilities.

Now after knowing what is web hosting it is also important to know the different types of web host which are summarized below:

Shared Hosting
As the name suggests, in shared hosting several websites share space on the common physical web servers. A physical web server can host thousands of websites at one time depending upon the web host. With so much pressure on web servers it tends to make one think that due to over burden perhaps the performance of web server gets affected. But that thinking is totally wrong as for this reason only web servers are equipped with high-end powerful computer so as to support large number of websites to some extent without any problem. However but it is even possible at time of over burden on web servers that the response is badly effected.

In order to get rid of this problem reputed and experienced host providers constantly keep on monitoring the performance of web servers and keeps on adding new web servers when and where required. As many websites share a same physical web server the cost is generally low with start from mere $5-$20 per month and they also have to accept slower server response time.

Dedicated Hosting
As against shared hosting, in dedicated hosting a specific web server is allotted to one customer only. Due to one server the customer is having option to host his single/multiple web sites, can modify the configuration of software, can handle greater site traffic and can even scale the bandwidth when it is taken as necessary. It is because of this facility that dedicated hosting charges good amount which starts from $50 and can range even upto$200 to $500 monthly. So dedicated hosting is regularly used by extremely important web sites having high traffic.

Co-location hosting
The only difference between dedicated hosting and co-location hosting is that here in this case customers can own the web server hardware whereas in case of dedicated hosting customers can just rent the web server during the hosting period. So Co-location hosting provides more flexibility to its customers in respect of control and maintainence. Here in this case 24/7 server monitoring is also possible which can evade the problem of slow response. Because of all above benefits co-location hosting charges good amount depending upon monthly bandwidth and rack space required which is as high as $500 - $1000 monthly.

Reseller hosting
The third type of hosting is reseller hosting where the provider offers web server storage space to third party at a discounted price, who again resell it to his own customer. Normally resellers include web consultants like web designers, developers or system Integration Company who after charging commission which is even upto 50%(taken as discount) can resell the web hosting. Resellers can set up their own hosting company and can decide for their own pricing structure with establishing their own branding.

In case of reseller hosting for reseller's customers, the reseller is the web host provider. When some technical problem arises like down server or any access problem then in that case the resellers have to settle all with actual web host provider. However this is not the effective way as it leads to unnecessary waste of time due to various channels involved in the communication process like first customer contacts reseller and then reseller contacts actual web host provider and same is with the response it also comes back from the same process, so the problems pertains for a long time. Thus reseller hosting is not considered a good option unless user is having his own personal website or he is having an alternative for poor support from reseller.

Now with growing competition market is having abundant of resellers who are selling their services at a very low price. Due to this and other factors like even some web-hosting providers provide their own toll free numbers to their resellers for co-branded technical support, this makes the decision more difficult to choose which is the right choice.

Thus it is more important to act wisely and to not get attracted with marketing techniques employed by resellers like professional outlook of their website and other strategies like proving technical support in their own name which is actually provided by the provider and not by them but they tend to present it in such a way that they are providing that support.

The general distinguishing feature between resellers and hosting company is firstly the hosting price and secondly the company's information including their balance sheet example iPowerWeb.com get their company's information published where they mention their financial strength, their offices and highly equipped data centers. As against this resellers lack these assets and for price what they quote is generally below $5 per month whereas providers charge between $7 and $10.

Thus considering all these facts it can be concluded easily that due to a minute difference of several dollars one must not get struck in the web of resellers and must go for best facilities instead of getting harassment afterwards.

Basic Concepts of Web Hosts

The one who wants to enter in this web world and desires for a long time survival, then he/she should be familiar with each and every terminology used in this field. If user considers all the important factors before choosing a hosting plan then only he/she will be able to have a successful future in this world .User should not choose any of the plan, rather he/she should opt the best and most suitable one and this can only be made possible by fetching more and more informations and also by studying properly all the requirements. New comers should start from the basics .They should learn the meaning of each and every term used and also in addition those factors that can affect his/her selection.

Web Host

Web host refers to a computer connected to the internet. Web host can also be termed as ‘web server’. The computer that is playing the role of the web server needs to be more powerful than normal PCs and the function of this web server is to serve up websites.

The website content of the user will remain will on this computer, so as the people who are surfing on the internet can get a way to access his/her website.

There can be three main categories in which the web host can be classified based on the economic factor and common features:

1. Free Hosts:

The users who are not professional but are making website only as a hobby then for them free hosting can be a good option. In free hosting space, bandwidth and other features provided are very limited. With free web hosting one can not only make his/her website successful but is also suitable for personal websites or for temporary usage. Generally free hosting enforces pop-up, text or banner ads. Reliability, best performance and customer support lacks in case of free hosting as well. When a user registers for a free host then the word free host gets added with the user’s domain name that gives an adverse effect in the eye of the visitors.

2. Shared Hosts:

The next type of the web hosting to be discussed is shared hosting. This hosting service is used by many of the web sites .This type of hosting service is Suitable for personal, small and medium businesses. This service can be used by paying $1 to $25 per month. The features provided by this service vary from very limited space/bandwidth to semi-dedicated servers. The users host their website by this type of hosting service and it has its own top level domain facility. No doubt that shared web hosting is quite better than free hosting but still it does not provide 100% satisfactory services. In case of shared hosting one server is shared by the number of websites so its performance and availability gets affected. More websites usually means less performance. If less number of websites are hosted by one server then it will be more expensive, but in this case there are more chances of reliability. There are many companies allowing customers to host multiple websites with different domains under a single account.

3. Dedicated Hosts:

The next type of hosting is dedicated hosting. This type of hosting is most reliable hosting. In this type of hosting a full server is dedicated to a single customer. Generally this type of hosting is used by large businesses, professionals and very active websites dealing with thousands of visitors daily. The customers having dedicated hosting can have their total control over the server as well as able to create as many websites as they like. Customers can run their own hosting company on a rented dedicated server. Payment module is mentioned according to specifications and services provided with the server, which varies from $100 up to about $800 dollars per month.

4. Collocated Hosts:

Now the other type of hosting service to be discussed is collocated hosting. This service is very much similar to dedicated hosting. The difference between collocated hosting and dedicated hosting is that in collocated hosting the customer owns the server hardware instead of renting it. In this service the server will be placed in provider’s data center. This service is more expensive than dedicated hosting.

5. Reseller Hosts:

In reseller hosting the providers offers web server storage to their customers, and resells the web server storage to them. Generally providers offer resellers a discount price.

6. Other Hosts:

Including the above type of hosts there are also many other hosts such as email hosts, media hosts, data hosts, etc but these hosts will not be discussed in this article.

Domain Name

Domain name is the name which shows the place where one’s website is located. The actual address of the website is a set of numbers. Each and every web server has its own unique address. Domain name indicates the real addresses of every websites. One can easily remember the domain name of any of the website. Remembering domain name is easier than recalling the IP addresses.

Space / Storage

Space is one of the services provided by the web host. It plays a very important role in the website development. It happens many times that the customer requires more space but the host fails to provide it, so customer should be very careful while choosing the web host. Storage is the amount of web server’s disk space available for customer’s website files, images and databases. Space can be according to the requirement; it can be as small as 5MB in some free hosts and as big as 300GB for some dedicated servers. Earlier prices of the space were very high but prices reduced significantly during the last few years. The hosting plans offering 3GB of space for less than $10 a month can be easily available.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth can be defined as the amount of data transferred from web server to clients’ internet browsers. When ever a person outlook a page the data is transmitted from the server to that person’ PC. If any one is having audio, video and images in his/her website then the bandwidth consumed is more in comparison of the website having only text contents. The bandwidth available in free hosting can be as low as 100MB per month where as in some dedicated servers the bandwidth available is as high as 2000GB a month. The customers who don’t want to pay more for bandwidth can easily find hosting plans offering 75GB of monthly data transfer for less than $10.

Server Type

Generally server means the operating system than runs the web server. Some common types are Windows, Linux and UNIX. Server type refers the server side scripting and database types. The difference between Windows server and Linux/UNIX is that Windows runs ASP and ASP.NET with Access or SQL Server databases where as Linux/UNIX servers usually runs CGI, PHP or JSP with MySQL or Oracle databases. The other difference is that Windows servers are more expensive than Linux/UNIX servers.

Databases

As server type is discussed earlier also, we are able to know that there are different types of databases available. The mostly used is MySQL as it is open source GPL (free) software and can serve a lot of online applications’ requirements such as forums, content management, mailing lists, etc. MySQL, rather its features are limited. MySQL is sufficient for small concern but it is not powerful for the complicated large business sites. Large business requires more powerful databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.

Server Side Scripting

Usually the new comers prefer to use PHP as server side scripting. The reason behind this is that there are hundreds of open source (GPL) PHP scripts that are able to fulfill the webmaster’s requirements. However PHP also has some limitations in features required by advanced websites same as in the case of MySQL, due to this limitation some professional web developers prefer to use ASP.NET or JSP. Some other developers still prefer to use Cold Fusion, CGI, ASP or PERL.

Email

Now the next very important aspect to be talked about is Email. At present no one can move further in this computer world with having his/her Email account. The one who is planning to do any kind of activity through computer such as to run a business or to provide any kind of service, then the first thing he/she need to do is to open an Email account. There are many hosting plans that include the feature of having some email accounts with customer’s domain. The availability of number and size of email accounts totally depends on the hosting plan one opted. Generally this feature is not included in free hosting. Small plans provide only about 10 accounts where as big plans do not have the limited number. Usually those email accounts are web based and accessible through POP3 clients as well.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

The other service is FTP. File Transfer Protocol is a usual way of transferring files across the Internet. Most of the webmasters used to upload and download their websites contents through FTP. The process of uploading or downloading is performed by using FTP client software. Webmasters require FTP username and password so as to access their web server. There are any hosts who use to provide more than one FTP account to their customers as per their requirement. Rather FTP is unspecified; it is not advisable as per the security reasons.

Control Panel

Control panel is the service available by many of the web hosting companies to their customers. It is a web based application that helps in managing websites. Some important functions performed by the control panel are that it used to manage email accounts, providing statistics, managing FTP accounts, managing domains and sub-domains and managing databases. The control panel application that is mostly used by the user is cPanel. There are many companies who use to develop their own control panel application.

Uptime

Now after having all the services, the thing of concern which remains is how the user keeps his/her website uptime most of the time. If anyone is having a website with excellent features but it remains down most of the time it will be of no use, as when ever the visitors visit his/her website and found it down then later on they will think twice before visiting it. In result he/she will suffer the loss of visitors. Uptime is very important feature of web hosts and that is usually measured in percentage. If a server remains down near about 30 minutes a day will have an uptime percentage of about 99.98%, which is acceptable for most small to medium business websites. If any of the business website is not having at least this percentage of uptime then that website is not suitable for a business website. Mission critical sites cannot tolerate frequent outages, thus they may use web monitoring services to notify web administrators immediately when an outage happens.

Price

Finally the factor left is price. In this option also there is a great variability found like for example customer is having option to choose between the prices ranging from 0 to $1000 per month. For most personal, small and medium websites the total amount of cost involved is just $15 per month. Thus its not at all advisable for business website owners to select very cheap plans let say less than $5 because this price can lead to huge cost indirectly afterwards.

The ever increasing business need for PDAs and SmartPhones has led to a
large spread of virus, spyware and malware special designed for Windows
Mobile platform. This Top 5 Windows Mobile Antivirus presents some of
the most recommended anit-virus products for the Windows Mobile
platform.

Today's smartphone viruses have shown that it is possible to create
malicious code that makes the phone unusable. A virus can also cause
false billing or unwanted disclosure of stored information. Protection
against harmful content is required on every smartphone.

What features should you look for when considering an Mobile Anti-Virus?

Most of the features to look for in selecting a mobile antivirus
solution are the same ones you're familiar with in choosing one for
your PC:

  • Support for
    your device
. You have to check that any software supports
the operating system and device you want to protect. For instance, most
antivirus vendors are updating their products to cover Windows Mobile
5.0 and 6.0 —but, be sure to verify before you buy.

  • Easy-to-use.
If it isn't easy, let's be honest, you're not going to do it. Not only
must the installation be easy and foolproof; but the interface I use
day-to-day needs to be clear and useful.

  • Automatic,
    over-the-air (OTA) updates
    . Antivirus vendors constantly
update their products to recognize new threats, and over-the-air is the
best way to deliver those updates. If you have to wait until you
synchronize to receive updates, you could be going outside wearing
    yesterday's virus protection.

  • Real-time
    virus scanning
. This may slow your device a little, but
this is the best form of protection. Antivirus software should examine
    all attachments for viruses.

  • Intrusion
    detection
. When you set up a Windows Mobile 5.0 device,
you'll find that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are "OFF" by default. If you have
an earlier version of Windows Mobile operating system, check the Help
files on your device or contact your device provider for instructions
on how to turn off these services. In either case, read about how to
activate them safely. Then, it isn't as crucial to have intrusion
    detection.

  • Support for
    you
    . When I have a security-related question, I want a
fast answer. My company is intentionally small, and we don't have an
in-house support staff. So, the type of support that a vendor offers is
often a deciding factor on whether I'll buy or not. Besides an
    easy-to-use Web knowledge base, I want rapid-response e-mail, live
    chat
    , and phone support.

What Is A Computer Virus?

Computer Virus: Introduction

A computer virus is a malicious program that is copied to your system without your consent. Depending on their severity, viruses can be categorized into three types—low-risk, medium-risk and high-risk viruses.

Low-risk viruses do not cause any severe damage to the PC, but they replicate quickly and display various text, audio, and video messages on the screen. They eat up a lot of system resources and drastically slow down your computer. These viruses may cause your PC to behave erratically and drastically deteriorate system performance leading to frequent system crashes and freezes.

Medium-risk viruses, usually carry buggy software with them that may generate frequent system errors and may also lead to data loss.

High-risk viruses are the ones that can do the most amount of damage to your PC. These malicious computer programs are designed to damage programs installed on your PC, delete your files and, in more severe cases, they may even format your hard disk, making you lose all your precious data.

All types of viruses add numerous malicious entries in the registry. These entries not only fill up the registry, but may also alter already existing registry entries to control the way programs work on your PC. For instance, file association for the EXE files may be changed in such a way that you may not be able to run any executable file on your computer. Thus, computer viruses generate several computer errors and may cause severe damage to your PC and data.

Virus Removal: Using Antivirus Utilities

There are many paid (Norton Antivirus and McAfee Antivirus) and free (AOL Free Active Shield and AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition) antivirus tools available today that you can use to prevent and remove virus infections from your PC.

Antivirus tools basically use two techniques to prevent and remove virus infections from your PC.

Virus Definition Approach

All files on your PC are examined for known viruses by matching them with a virus dictionary. If during the analysis, a file is found with a malicious code, the antivirus tool may take one of the following actions:

* Try to repair the file by removing the malicious code.
* Move the file to quarantine so the file cannot be accessed by other programs on your PC and stop it from spreading and replicating.
* Permanently delete the infected file from the system.

This method is quite effective and is used by all antivirus tools available today. However, because new viruses are released almost everyday, you need to regularly update your antivirus tools with the latest definitions to ensure that your computer is protected against the latest viruses.

Suspicious Behavior Approach

Suspicious behavior by any program is examined for possible malicious infections. The analysis is usually done by using methods such as data capture and port monitoring. This technique is generally useful in tracking new virus infections, which are still not there in the virus definitions. For instance, if a software program attempts to write some kind of data to another executable program, your antivirus tool may record it as a suspicious behavior. Once a suspicious behavior is detected, an alert is displayed to the user to ask what action to take.

Although useful, this method may display alerts for legitimate activities also. With frequent alerts being displayed, users may eventually start accepting all the messages and thus, make the whole process useless.

Virus Removal: Role of the Registry Cleaner

As discussed earlier, viruses add many entries within the registry. Some of these entries are added so deep within the registry that it may not be possible even for your antivirus tool to remove them. Therefore, the use of a registry cleaner tool is recommended. You can use this tool to perform a thorough scan of the registry and weed out any malicious entries left behind after the antivirus scan.

If your Windows XP or Windows Vista PC starts generating errors out of the blue, it is quite probable that your PC is infected by one or more viruses. Read 5 Tips for an Easy Home Network Setup

Bookmark and Share

Many households are finding that not only is a computer a necessity in their lives, but one computer is no longer enough to go around, and thus the need to set up a home network. A home network is simply a method of allowing computers and other devices to communicate with one another. If you have two or more computers, a network will allow them to share files, printers, HDTVs, game systems, music, and of course an Internet connection.

If you are thinking about building a home network you have several options to explore. Here are five tips to consider before you make your decision, according to BluePhone , the Personal Tech Support hotline that helps consumers get maximum value out of their tech gear by eliminating the hassles, fears and runarounds when resolving problems with computers, peripherals and digital devices:

1. Location
The location of your computer(s), printer(s) and other devices you want to connect can affect your network design. Are they all on one floor or one area? Or are they spread out throughout the house? Are they fixed in their location or are they items that you move around frequently?

2. Know your specs
The specifications of your devices will also play an integral part of planning your network. Some of these items may already come built-in with networking capability while others may not. And with the items that do come built-in with networking it is extremely important to know what type of networking they are compatible with. There is nothing worse than spending time and money to build a home network then realizing that one of your items is not compatible with it!

3. Wired versus Wireless
The first step in setting up your home network is deciding what type of network you want, the two major choices being wired or wireless. When deciding between the two there is one thing to keep in mind: wired networks will never be as convenient as wireless networks, and wireless networks will never have the speed and stability of wired networks. It is all about knowing which option works best for your needs.

4. Speed and Distance
The most common type of wired network uses Ethernet. You may prefer a wired network if you do not feel secure sending data wirelessly through the air; if you need to be able to move large amounts of data quickly; or if all of your devices are located within a close range of each other. Ethernet networks are faster than wireless networks, but wireless networks give you more flexibility. By using radio waves, wireless technology allows you to access your network from anywhere within range of the wireless signal. Wireless signals can reach distances of 100 feet or more from their point of origin, but obstructions such as walls, microwaves, and other home devices can greatly reduce their range.

5. Security
The next thing to consider when building your home network is security, especially if you decide to go with the wireless option. Hackers spend all day thinking about how they can get their hands on your sensitive (i.e. financial) information. Thus it is absolutely essential to have firewalls in place that will help protect your sensitive information. Firewalls can either be in the form of hardware or software. Many routers now come with built in firewalls that will help protect your data, but it is also a very good idea to have software installed on all of the computers that will be part of the network. In addition, if you have a wireless network it is essential to set a good password that cannot be easily hacked.

Many of the devices that you need to set up your home network, whether wired or wireless, can be purchased at your local electronics store, while certified experts such as BluePhone can help you set up everything you need to get it going.

How To Setup Xbox 360 Firewall Settings

Bookmark and Share

This article describes the firewall ports that you must open for an Xbox 360 console to work correctly with a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Media Center Extenders, such as an Xbox 360 console, use network ports to communicate over the network together with computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Sometimes a firewall that is running on the Windows Media Center-based computer will block Media Center Extender programs from using these ports.

If you use a third-party firewall (a firewall that is not a Microsoft firewall), you may have to manually configure the firewall to allow for access to the ports for specific programs. The firewall manufacturer may prompt you to configure the firewall by using one of the following methods:

* Some firewall manufacturers will want you to configure the firewall for the specific program. In other words, you would configure the firewall to allow for only specific programs to access certain ports.
* Some firewall manufacturers may want you to modify the specific ports that the program uses.
* To configure a firewall, you must know the specific name of the program, the port that the program requires, and the direction of the communication signal.

The following table lists the specific information about Media Center Extender programs that you must know to configure some non-Microsoft firewalls:

Program/File Name Port Direction
Ehshell.exe TCP 5555 Incoming
Ehshell.exe UDP 7777 Incoming
Mcrdsvc.exe UDP 3776 Incoming
Svchost.exe UDP 1900 Incoming
Svchost.exe TCP 3390 Incoming
Mcxnettw.exe
Random Outgoing
Mcrmgr.exe TCP 3932 Outgoing
Ehexthost.exe
Random Outgoing

The procedure for manually configuring a firewall is different for each firewall model and for each firewall manufacturer. For more information about how to configure your firewall, see your firewall documentation.
